Over the weekend:
- funds have been raised
- transportation organised
- permission granted by N.P.W.S to collect them at 6am Monday the 18th Nov!
N.P.W.S confirmed ELEVEN Wild Brumbies, including one baby weanling colt and seven mares - most likely in foal - WILL be loaded for transportation to safety in SA... Instead of being loaded onto a truck for slaughter at a knackery!
How fantastic is that?!!
There are not enough words to describe our gratitude to everyone who helped make this happen...
BUT... we would still LOVE your help...
We’re rapt to report three of the 11 already have homes to go to when they’re ready.
That leaves 8 in our care.
A group of us are creating the 'South Australian Brumby Association'.
As a team, we're 100% committed to doing whatever it takes for the SAFE BIRTHS, ongoing upkeep and safety of these Brumbies - until they're ready to move on to perfect homes.
It truly does “Take a village to save a Brumby”.
So we're asking... Can you please help?
100% of contributions go directly to the Brumbies:
- Ongoing care of the pregnant mares, before and after foaling
- Castration/gelding (ouch!) of the stallions/colts
- And the myriad of other expenses required for such an effort.
We feel SO blessed to have connected with many passionate, kind hearted and generous people. Without whom, these 11 Brumbies would be certainly be "going to a knackery" today, instead of coming to safety in SA.

PS: We know you're busy and maybe didn't see our email last week, so we've included it for your reference below...
DEAD-Line - this Sunday the 17th of November.
With severe ongoing drought and the east coast on fire, Australia is in crisis.
We know so many people, places and causes need help...
As a horse lover, we implore you to take a sec' to read this email.
In N.S.W the N.P.W.S started trapping Brumbies a few weeks ago.
They're continuing to trap them until Sunday.
Today they informed us there are 10 Brumbies currently being held at the depot and sadly, more are on the way.
A group of us in S.A. saved 9 Kosciusko Stallions on the 29th October.
They were transported 1100 kms to safety in Gawler S.A.
They're are recovering from their ordeal, have settled in and have been gelded this week. Nine very lucky boys who all have great homes to go to when ready.
Now we're on a frantic mission to rescue the remaining trapped Brumbies...
These beautiful wild horses are on death row - through no fault of their own.
We're very fortunate to be in a non-drought area, we have a network of people offering great homes, we just need to save them from slaughter and transport them 1100 kilometres...
But it MUST be by THIS Sunday the 17th November.
That's the deadline N.P.W.S set for collection.
All Brumbies still at the N.P.W.S depot on Monday the 18th WILL go to a knackery.
We have that in writing.
There are 2 transport companies who can help.
One truck can fit 9 horses and costs $2800.
The other can fit 20 + and costs $4400.
Our goal is to urgently raise money to pay for transport and save as many as possible.
Once in SA the Brumbies will be cared for until suitable long term homes can be found.
It’s a race against time and a long-shot, but if you (or anyone you know) are in a position to donate just a couple of bucks or more, your help will be greatly appreciated.
But please, don't put it off... please, please, please do it now.
Thank you for reading this far.
We hope you and yours are safe and well.
Kindest regards,
x Sally & Steve
